HP Notebook - 15-ay130nr
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

For a month or so the laptop would shut off after some minutes of the power cord being unplugged. The battery was always at least 50% charged when I rebooted. Now, the laptop immediately shuts down when the power cord is unplugged. Also, even with the cord in the laptop reports the level at a constant 92% and charging.

Hi,

Most likely the battery has failed. I usually replace the batteries in my notebooks every 18-24 months. You can perform a battery check.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/topic/diagnostics?category=computing&issue=battery-adapter-issues

The part number for the battery is 807956-001

You can search online with part number and find a quality compatible battery

Example:

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=807956-001&ref=nb_sb_noss_2

I should have mentioned, I did run the HP self diagnostic and it said the battery was ok. But I'm leaning toward the battery, I just can't find the part number! There are so many different #s on the battery!

BTW thanks for the quick reply!!
