Hi,

Some weeks ago, I realised my laptop's battery life had reduced drastically: I opened my laptop to find that it was swollen, suggesting it was time to replace the battery. I've replaced the battery like-for-like (SA04XL).

Now the battery issues are gone, but my laptop keeps shutting down randomly. I've tried resetting my Windows setup, erasing my Ubuntu partition (no dual boots now), resetting BIOS, updating BIOS, updating Windows and updating HP software particularly relevant to battery configuration. But nothing has worked yet.

After every shutdown, I've been observing "System" logs in Event Viewer. In every occurence, I find this log common:

> The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

I'm not heavily using my laptop all this time: I've only been casually browsing so I dont think the CPU load would've drastically changed. But the shutdowns dont happen periodically: sometimes I've been able to use my laptop longer than usual (before it shuts again abruptly).

I dont think its an overheating issue either: I'm able to successfully stress-test the CPU using HP's Hardware DIagnostic Tools, and the system didnt shut down then.

I'm totally lost: I'd really appreciate some guidance on where to look or what to do. Pls let me know if any more information about this issue would help. Thanks!

Hi, @nirmalhk7 since the battery issue had been solved, the error will most likely be from the laptop itself. I feel there might be a hardware issue.

See if you can reach out to HP Support for further assistance on this matter.
