Recently, my laptop has started shutting off without warning when my battery is not close to dying.  The percentage of battery life remaining varies, but it's usually around 40%.  I've tried recalibrating the battery, but it hasn't fixed it.  The problem only happens when it's on battery power, this has never happened when plugged in.  Because of this, I think the battery is the problem, but would like second opinions before going to buy a new one.

I am new to these forums, so hopefully I have the right information for product name and board category.  Thank you to anyone who helps in advance.

@ADJanecka

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that you have an HP 15-f337wm Notebook and when it's on battery power, the laptop shuts down by itself. Calibrating the battery could not fix the issue. You've done a remarkable job performing the steps.

To assist you better, I would like to know the following information:

  • Did any software changes or updates happen on the laptop?
  • Does the laptop always shut down when the battery charge reduces to around 40%? Or does it happen intermittently?

While you respond to that, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Remove the battery out. If the battery is integrated and does not have a latch to release it then leave the battery inside the laptop.
  • Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter.
  • Power ON the laptop.

Let us uninstall the battery drivers and reinstall them. The following steps will help:
NOTE: Let the charger be connected at all times during the troubleshooting

  • Open the device manager.
  • Expand "Batteries". Right click on the ACPI battery drivers and select uninstall. If there are multiple ACPI battery entries then you may uninstall them all.
  • Close the device manager.
  • Restart the laptop. While restarting, Windows will reinstall the battery drivers.

Now, you may observe the performance while the laptop is on battery power. If the laptop continues to shutdown then let us update the BIOS via this link. The charger must be connected until the BIOS update is complete to avoid any power interruptions due to battery draining out.

You may also run a hardware test on the battery if the problem persists. And calibrate it again if required:  HP Notebook PCs - Testing and calibrating the battery (Windows) | HP® Support

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Feel free to let me know how it goes. Good luck! 🙂

Hello the first two questions you asked is actually whats going on with my laptop.

I activated my Windows 10 hp laptop in July. Ever since I've been having this issue. It mostly shuts down at 70, 65, it doesn't even get to 50% at all. But the thing is whenever i plug on the charger, it resumes the charge from the same percentage it shuts down

Were you able to get this fixed?  I'm having the same problem.  Ever since I upgraded to Windows 10, the laptop goes "pop" and dies when on battery power.  I bought a brand new battery, and that didn't fix the problem.
