@Barberdad, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop being stuck on loading screen!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like your HP Chromebook is stuck during the boot process, and a hard reset isn't resolving the issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

1. Perform a Forced Shutdown

Since a hard reset isn’t working, try forcing a shutdown:

  • Press and hold the Power button for at least 10 seconds until the device turns off.
  • Wait a few seconds, then power it back on.

2. Try a Different Hard Reset Method

Some HP Chromebooks have a specific hard reset combination:

  • Press and hold Refresh (⟳) + Power for about 10 seconds, then release both.
  • If your Chromebook has a removable battery, remove it and unplug the charger for a few minutes before trying again.

3. Boot into Recovery Mode

If it’s still stuck, you might need to reinstall ChromeOS:

  1. Turn off the Chromebook.
  2. Press and hold Esc + Refresh (⟳) + Power until you see a recovery screen.
  3. If prompted, insert a USB recovery drive.

4. Check for Hardware Issues

If none of the above works, consider:

  • Trying a different charger (a faulty charger can cause boot issues).
  • Checking for a stuck key on the keyboard.

Let me know what you've tried, and I can guide you further! 🚀

Take care, and have an amazing day!
