Hi @Debik1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy 360 is stuck updating for six hours, it's likely the update process is hung. Here's what you can do.

Check for Activity

  • Look for signs of activity, such as the update percentage changing, a spinning icon, or hard drive activity (check the LED indicator if your laptop has one).
  • If there's no progress after several minutes, move to the next step.

Restart the Laptop

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Press and hold the power button until the laptop shuts down completely.
  • Wait a few seconds, then turn it back on.

See if It Boots Normally:

  • If it resumes the update, let it try again.
  • If it gets stuck again, proceed to Step 3.

Boot into Safe Mode

Force Restart to Access Recovery Options:

  • Turn off the laptop, then turn it back on.
  • As soon as it starts, press F11 repeatedly until the recovery menu appears.

Boot into Safe Mode:

  • Select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart.
  • When prompted, press the number for Safe Mode.

Check for Pending Updates:

  • Open Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  • Cancel or retry the update.

Use Windows Recovery

  • From the same recovery menu:
    • Choose Advanced Options > System Restore to revert to a previous restore point.
    • Or, use Startup Repair if available.

Reinstall Windows (if necessary)

If nothing works:

  1. Back up your data using a bootable USB or recovery tool if possible.
  2. Perform a clean installation of Windows using a bootable USB drive.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
