Hello,

I have a 2021 pavilion that won’t load up, I have tried running tests and it’s fine. When it does turn on, I get the HP logo with preparing automatic repair. Nothing else happens after that. What can I do next? Thanks!

Hi @emg1279,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your 2021 HP Pavilion shows the HP logo with “Preparing Automatic Repair” and then gets stuck, it usually means Windows is having trouble booting due to a corrupted system file, failed update, or disk issue, even if hardware tests pass.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you recover your system:
1. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Unplug the power adapter and remove any peripherals.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power and try turning it on.

2. Boot into Recovery Mode Manually

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Turn it on and immediately press Esc repeatedly, then press F11 to enter System Recovery.
  • If F11 doesn’t work, try Shift + F8 during boot (timing is tricky).

3. Use Startup Repair

  • In Recovery Mode, go to:
    • Advanced Options > Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Repair
  • Let Windows try to fix boot issues.

4. Run System File Checker (SFC)

If you can access Command Prompt from Recovery Mode: sfc /scannow

Also try: chkdsk /f /r C:

5. Try System Restore

  • Go to Advanced Options > System Restore.
  • Choose a restore point before the issue started.

6. Reset Windows (Keep Files)

If nothing works:

  • Go to Troubleshoot > Reset this PC > Keep my files.
  • This reinstalls Windows but keeps your personal data.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hello,

I have tried those various steps and nothing. It still keeps on restarting and showing the preparing automatic update. Even after hitting F11 when restarting it just says please wait. What else can I do? Thanks!!
