My HP laptop won’t power on, when plugged in the orange light comes on, but not powering up.

Hi @887Tom,

Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Check the Power Adapter and Cable

  • Ensure that your power adapter and charging cable are working. You could try using another charger if available to rule out a faulty charger.
  • Confirm that the power cable is securely plugged into both the wall outlet and the laptop.

Perform a "Hard Reset" Again (with Charger Plugged In)

  • You mentioned doing a hard reset, but try this again with the charger plugged in:
    1. Unplug the charger and remove the battery (if possible).
    2. Hold down the power button for 15-20 seconds to drain any residual power.
    3. While holding down the power button, plug the charger back in (without the battery installed).
    4. Attempt to power the laptop on.

Reseat the RAM and Storage

  • If you're comfortable doing so, you can try reseating the RAM and storage drives (SSD/HDD). Loose connections might cause startup issues.
    • Power off the laptop completely, remove the battery (if removable), and then carefully open the laptop.
    • Reseat the RAM by removing and reinserting it.
    • If your laptop has a removable storage drive (SSD/HDD), ensure that it is connected properly.

Try Powering On Without the Battery

  • You already tried removing the battery, but make sure that the charger is plugged in properly. Some HP laptops require that the charger is connected when booting up without the battery.

Check for Faulty Battery

  • The orange light when plugged in typically indicates charging, but it could also signal a battery issue. If the battery is faulty, it might not allow the laptop to power on.
    • If you have access to a working battery from another similar HP laptop, try inserting it to see if the laptop powers up.

Check for Internal Hardware Issues

  • If none of the above step's work, the issue could be with the internal power circuitry or motherboard, which might need professional attention.

I hope these steps help resolve the issue
