So the other day I was cleaning off my laptop and I swiped the keyboard with a towel and I guess I pressed something I shouldn't have because it went to a blank green-ish screen (the color of my windows 8 theme) and I had to turn it off because it wouldn't do anything.
Now when I turn it on it has the HP loading screen and says preparing automatic recovery but then it just goes to a black screen after a minute. I can go into BIOS menu (F9) and the system settings (F10), but I can't get into the system recovery page. When I press the F11 key to do so, it says system revocery in the corner but then it just goes to the "preparing system recovery" loading screen and turns to a black screen.
I ran a short system test on the diagnostics menu and it said that the hard drive short DST check failed. The error code i got was U4TV68-7J3886-MFPV6K-60T603. Any help here? I don't mind resetting my computer to factory defaults if thats possible, but I can't exactly go and buy a new laptop right now.
Thanks in advance!

Short DST fail= the hard drive has failed/ is failing and will have to be replaced. Unfortunately HP does not make this easy in their later models. On earlier laptops it was a matter of opening the service door on bottom and replacing the drive. Now it requires almsot complete disassembly to access the drive as shown in the Maintenance & Service Guide here:

You can purchase a hard drive for $50-60 but if you are not handy with disassembly you will have to pay someone to replace it. Local pc repair shop, Best Buy,Staples, etc.

Btw-I hope you made your Recovery Media using software on the laptop. You will need it to boot the laptop and install Windows on a new drive. If not that will be an extra $40 to purchase from HP.
