Hi @Ger09

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I hear how worrying this feels—seeing the charge light but no response when pressing the power button can be frustrating. Let’s go through some structured checks to narrow down what’s happening with your HP Envy laptop:

Step 1: Perform a hard reset

  • Disconnect the power adapter.
  • If your model has a removable battery, take it out. If not, just leave it connected internally.
  • Press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds to discharge residual power.
  • Reconnect the adapter (and battery if removable) and try powering on again.

Step 2: Check for signs of life

  • Watch for keyboard backlight, fan spin, or screen flicker when pressing the power button.
  • If absolutely nothing happens, it points to a deeper hardware issue.

Step 3: Try an external display

  • Connect the laptop to an external monitor via HDMI.
  • Press Fn + F4 (or the display toggle key) to check if the system is booting but the internal screen is blank.

Step 4: Reset hardware connections

  • If comfortable, reseat the RAM modules and SSD/HDD (loose connections can prevent boot).
  • Ensure the power adapter is the correct wattage for your Envy model.

Step 5: Run hardware diagnostics (if it powers on partially)

  • Power on and immediately press Esc repeatedly.
  • If the Startup Menu appears, press F2 to run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • This will test memory, battery, and other components.

If the LED shows charging but the laptop won’t respond at all, it’s usually either a stuck embedded controller (fixed by a hard reset), a faulty power button board, or a deeper motherboard issue. If none of the steps above bring it back, professional service may be required.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
