HP Envy 13
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

as the title says, the latest and surely wonderful Win10 update has caused a blue screen on my HP Envy 13 laptop, preventing it to fully boot up no matter what I do. As such, I performed the usual diagnostics to ensure nothing was amiss with my laptop and then proceeded with system recovery, restoring it to a previous date before that bloody update (which happened on December 23d according to the updater). As expected, it worked fine. However, the problem is that I can’t seem to prevent Windows from downloading and applying this update again in "no time" and thus screwing me over… Any ideas?

P.S. Merry Christmas...

Thank you for joining HP Forums.

It's a pleasure assisting you in finding answers to your technical queries.

I would suggest here is to Run Windows Updates troubleshooter -

Download and install the troubleshooter from this link.

Now try to perform Windows Updates:

1) In the search box, type, and open Windows Updates.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

If the issue still persists, I would suggest here is to update the Bios on your computer from  HP Support Assistant Updates:

1) In the search box, type, and open HP Support Assistant.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Keep me posted, how it goes!

First of all, the troubleshooter did nothing except installing that update and leaving me with a blue screen again.

Secondly, there is no bios update (or any updates) for my Envy 13 as it's  all already up to date.

So what am I supposed to do? The anger is real...

I wonder if you'd mind sharing the solution with me as well? My son's HP Omen gaming laptop which he's had for a week does exactlty the same thing. I've checked RAM, updated all drivers etc, run all windows updates and other suggestions which have been on the forums.  This morning we even reset the laptop back to the start and deliberately didn't update windows because of suggestions that that was causing the problem but now that he's running a game the bsod came up again. It is never the same message either.....HELP

Addit: This evening I have found the drivers and BIOS updates on this site and have done those too -- so fingers crossed.

Hi Michelle38,

sadly, I have been unable to fix my issue so far. I also restored the laptop to factory settings - that helped. But unfortunately, there is no way of stopping Windows from downloading those updates again - indefinitely that is. I believe it's MS fault and there isn't much one can do about it except wait for a fix either from MS or HP side, neither of which has happened as of yet.

My BIOS seems up to date according to the HP software which came with my HP Envy 13, for it doesn't recommend me any new updates. I also sent a private message to one of the HP staff, so wonder what he will have to say about it...

P.S. Bsod in my case only happens after the latest Windows update, always displaying the same "SrtTrail.txt error".
