14-rt111tu
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Dear Sir,

i just purchased HP 14-r111tu which came with Windows 8.1 Bing Edition.

The problem is, everytime i open the Lid, it powered on the device and start the Windows.

It doesn't matter which Shutdown button i use, either with Alt+F4 Shutdown, Start Menu Shutdown, or Charm Shutdown.

None of them work.

i have tried so many solutions from the internet during the last two weeks, including:

1. Did Windows Update already (73 Updates)

2. Power Options:

  • Choose what the Power button does => Unchecked the "Turn On Fast Startup"
  • Edit Plan Settings => All has been set to "Never" both on Battery or Plugged in
  • Change Advanced Power Settings - Sleep:
    Sleep After => All "Never"
Allow Hybrid Sleep => All "Off"
    Hibernate After => All "Never"
Allow Wake Timers => All "Disabled"
  • Everything has been set to "Disabled, Never and Off"

3. Command Prompt - Run as Administrator:

  • Powercfg -h off
  • Shutdown /s /t 0

4. i even tried the solution from Vidya => here but the problem persists.

Please help me i'm done with searching around the internet.
i tried so many solutions from many many sources and forums such as: EightForums, AskVG, Microsoft, Blogs, and many more.

What i really want is:
1. Power Down After Shutdown. (Not Hybrid nor Hibernate nor Sleep nor Any Power left mode).
I want a Complete and  Total Shutdown.
2. Open LID = Do Nothing.

Thanks in advance 🙂

Best Wishes,

P.S:
1. Any kind of help and solution will be appreciated much.

2. Zero Tolerance for those "wise men" who keep asking stupid questions such as:

  • "Why do you want a total shutdown?"
  • "Hybrid is good, why don't you try and get use to it?"
  • "Why don't you migrate, downgrade or upgrade to another OS or version?"

Hi @ChristineLo ,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community! Thank you for all the detailed information about what you have done. Very useful.

I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your  HP 14-r111tu Notebook and issue with opening the lid and the Notebook turning on. Here is a link that shows you how to change what turns on the Notebook.

On the Advanced settings tab, expand the category that you want to customize, expand each setting that you want to change, and then choose the values that you want to use.

Most of the options only allow for closing the lid. I changed mine under the advanced tab and seems to work fine.

Hope this helps.

Thanks.

Thank you very much for your reply and help.

Unfortunately i couldn't find the category to cutomize things that turns on the notebook.

Also you said: "Here is a link that shows you how to change what turns on the Notebook" but the link is not there.

i'm afraid that i might get you wrong, can you please assist me more?
maybe with a link or picture?

Thanks in advance 🙂

Hello,

i had this same issue, and this solution worked for me:

- Go to BIOS - Advanced - Boot Options, and then deselect the option "Power On When Lid is Opened".
