I’ve updated the bios from version 11 to v.20 (released late December 2019) I had overlooked this update for some reason.

I am able to boot with grub using Linux Mint Tricia.

I will look for overheating issues,  I am using a fan laptop cooler to reduce heat.

Hey Goldx,

I would love to know if you proceeded further.

But actually I don't dare to completely delete Win10 from mine. I have 3 weeks to return it, and I don't know if I can, when theres no trace of Windows left 🙂

Please push for linux support. Windows on these things is very clunky especially when many apps are open. UI performance degrades rapidly with such larger loads as opposed to in linux where it's quite graceful an experience.

I tried some different distros and some of them worked, so realized this was something weird with manjaro.  So I switched to Arch and have had a nearly flawless experience.

For audio output I had to add this fixup:

echo "options snd-hda-intel dmic_detect=0" > /etc/modprobe.d/intel-audio-fix.conf

I think the microphone is still busted and haven't bothered to look any available fix for that up.

I got it running now. I installed Ubuntu 19.10 from a stick - the only distro I tried that didn't make too many problems.

After the Installation I could only boot windows - no chance to boot into Linux. But grub2win.exe managed to install a boot loader that worked.

So now I have a dual booting system - win10 and ubuntu 19.10.  The only thing not working in Linux right now is the microphone. Everything else works.

With the next kernel update it installed it's own grub boot loader - with option for win and linux.

I have the same problem, I purchased the Spectre x360 specifically to run a Linux only program. I have been unable to install Ubuntu after a week of trying, now I have a 1 week old $2000 machine which I have no use for! If someone could provide assistance it would be greatly appreciated

I agree completely. Not only does HP NOT support linux on this notebook (Spectre x360 - 13-aw0023dx), and discourage people from dual booting Linux on their over-priced junk, they actually have rigged the BIOS to block Linux installations. Two days now of wading through bitlockers, EFI, Gnu2Win, missing legacy boot, corrupted partitions and other minefields have convinced me that I need to get rid of this piece of junk that I only bought in March. Too bad. Dell used to pull this kind of crap, and I stopped buying their products. Looks as if my only real choice now is Lenovo. SO LONG!

FYI - I have the same rig and I was able to get Fedora 31 installed and dial boot capable - Everything works except that when the laptop goes to sleep in windows the device actually shuts down.  The ticket is disabling the Intel Optane memory.  This caching tool apparently is software driven, and without native Linux drivers breaks a whole bunch of stuff.  The Intel Optane disabling guides are here:

https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c05591811

It's a two step process - first disable the Intel RST driver with the intel app, then disable it in Bios.  Hope this helps!

What a succinct reply! I unfortunately trashed my laptop to the point that all recovery information was lost, and a two hour chat session with HP support failed to get it running again, though I did confirm that the hardware is okay, it just lacks any recovery information. Turns out a recovery thumb drive is no good at all if you can't boot from any thumb drive.😭

Thanks so much for the help! Once I try out your solution, I'll post again, but at this point I'm sure it'll work.
