Was getting help from HP Answer Desk to figure out why one of my apps wasn't running. The lady told me to me uninstall program, go to HP manger and reinstall and then restart computer. Did that. Now I'm in Recovery Manager with an error message of 0xc0000034. I have important documents and pictures on my laptop that I cannot lose and that it it about to happen if I don't get help.

The hard drive needs to be replaced as I suspected.

The advice she gave was good advice. If you are getting that error code it may be a hardware issue. Can you tap esc as you power up and get into diagnostic mode by tapping F2....then run the test on the storage (hard drive)? An emerging problem with the hard drive may have been causing you the trouble that made you call in the first place.

Okay, I just did a bunch of testing on the laptops hard drive. There is always one hard drive test that always fails. It's called 'hard drive short DST check

And by getting a new hard drive, I'm going to lose all my stuff on my laptop, right?

Well not exactly. It was the old hard drive's dying that may or may not have caused you to lose data. And you do have a backup, right? OK just hoping. In most cases data can still be recovered off the old drive with a usb to SATA adapter. And your laptop is pretty much useless without a new hard drive. You should stop using it to avoid any further damage to the hard drive which will guarantee you lose your data.
