Hi @Kimm13,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP Stream 14-Cb161wm laptop might have been set up with a managed account, which typically happens in environments like workplaces or schools. Here’s how you can address the issue:

1. Confirm the Account Issue

Before proceeding with any steps, ensure that the account you are trying to use is indeed a local account and not a managed one (like a work or school account).

2. Safe Mode

Try to boot your laptop in Safe Mode to see if you can access the administrator account:

  1. Restart the laptop and press the F8 key repeatedly as it boots up.
  2. Select Safe Mode from the boot options menu.
  3. If you can log in, create a new administrator account or reset the existing one.

3. Reset Password via Command Prompt

If you can access the Command Prompt, you can reset the password or enable the disabled account:

  1. Boot into Advanced Startup Options:
    • Hold the Shift key and select Restart from the power options menu.
    • Navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt.
  2. Enable Built-in Administrator:
    • Type the following command and press Enter: net user administrator /active:yes

    • Restart the laptop and log in with the built-in Administrator account.

Refer to this document:

Create and manage an HP account or HP Smart account

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
