I need to rebuild an older laptop, and can't find product key for MS Office which was preinstalled. I looked through papers I got with it, no luck. Microsoft is no help.

Hi @GayleFR,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're looking to rebuild an older laptop and can't find the product key for the preinstalled MS Office, here are a few steps you could try.
- Check for a Sticker: Some older laptops might have a sticker on the bottom or inside the battery compartment that displays the product key. Look for a 25-character alphanumeric code.
- Check the Documentation: If you have the original documentation that came with the laptop, there might be a sticker or card containing the product key.
- Retrieve from Registry (if possible): If your laptop is operational and you're able to log in, you might be able to retrieve the product key from the Windows Registry using specialized software. However, this process can be a bit technical and might not always work.
- Use Microsoft Account (if linked): If you used a Microsoft account to activate Office on that laptop, you might be able to recover the product key by logging into your Microsoft account and checking your account's product history.
- Purchase a New Key: If all else fails, and you can't recover the original product key, you might need to purchase a new license for MS Office.
Remember that it's important to use legitimate and legal methods to acquire software licenses. Using unauthorized or pirated copies of software is against the terms of use and can lead to legal and security issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
