Hi @Gr8techy, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're trying to boot from a USB drive with Windows 10 installation media, but your laptop is still asking for a sign-in password, it means you're not booting from the USB correctly. Here's what you can do:

1. Make Sure You're Booting from USB

  • Power off your laptop.
  • Insert the USB drive.
  • Power on the laptop and immediately press the boot menu key (Usually Esc, F9, or F12 depending on your HP model).
  • Select the USB drive from the boot menu.

If done correctly, you should see the Windows Setup screen instead of a sign-in screen.

2. If You See the Sign-in Screen

If your laptop still boots to Windows and asks for a password, try these options:

Option 1: Restart into Recovery Mode

  1. On the sign-in screen, press and hold Shift while clicking the Restart button in the bottom right corner.
  2. Your laptop should boot into Advanced Startup Options.
  3. Select Troubleshoot > Reset this PC > Remove everything.

Option 2: Use "I Forgot My Password"

  • If you're using a Microsoft Account, click "I forgot my password" and follow the prompts to reset it.

Option 3: Use a Local Account Password Reset Trick

If you have no way to reset your password, you may need to reset Windows by booting from the USB and doing a clean installation.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
