Whenever I close my laptop for 30 mins and over, I find out that it does not boot or 'wake up' until i long press the power button to force shut it down. On other occasions where it comes up from sleep mode, I realize that I lose all active documents. Infact, the laptop comes as if it was just powered on and all previous browsers and documents are gone. Why is this though? I intend to take it to a technician for troubleshooting. Please help

Hello @Dank14 ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

If you experience loss of active documents when your HP laptop enters sleep mode, it can be both frustrating and disruptive. Here’s how you can address this issue:

Possible Causes and Solutions:

  1. Save Work Frequently:

    • Always save your work regularly to avoid losing data unexpectedly, especially before stepping away from your device.
  2. Check Sleep Settings:

    • Adjust the sleep settings by navigating to your laptop's power settings.
    • Go to Control Panel -> Power Options -> Change plan settings for your current power plan and adjust the time for sleep mode to ensure it’s suitable for your work habits.
  3. Disable Hybrid Sleep:

    • Hybrid sleep is a combination of sleep and hibernate, which might cause issues in some cases.
    • Control Panel -> Power Options -> Change advanced power settings. Expand Sleep, and turn off hybrid sleep.
  4. Update Drivers and OS:

    • Ensure your operating system and all drivers, specifically related to power management, are up to date. Use the HP Support Assistant or visit HP’s website to download the latest drivers.
  5. Check for System Updates:

    • Ensure that your laptop has all the latest updates installed. Some issues can be resolved with the latest patches and updates from HP or your operating system provider.
  6. Test Different Software Applications:

    • Determine if the problem occurs with specific applications. Some applications might not handle sleep/resume cycles well.
  7. Consult HP Support:

    • If the issue persists despite the above troubleshooting steps, contact HP Support for further assistance. They can offer specific guidance based on your laptop model and configuration.

By following these steps, you can minimize the risk of losing active documents when your laptop enters sleep mode. Regular backups and diligent saving can also be key preventative measures.
