I was editing a word document and the laptop asked if I wanted to email it. I have two email addresses and when I tried to send it myself, an Outlook mail app appeared and told me to open an account. I didn't complete the procedure correctly and Outlook keeps telling there is a problem. When I tried to reopen my word file, the laptop told that this file had been removed, renamed, etc. I thought I was saving it in Dropbox, and now when I try to open it a get a message that says "Word is experiencing an error trying to open the file. It gives three suggestions, none of which I know how to do.

Welcome to the HP Community --
I cannot connect the idea of editing a Word file and the computer suddenly asking if I wanted to email the document during the edit session. ?
That said, before you tackle what you are trying to do -- or not do -- with Outlook, you have to find the document.
Open Word and check the Options for Save -
The settings in Save will help you find where lost documents might be saved by Word when "something goes wrong".
Will you find your document in the AutoRecover folder?
No idea - nor can I offer other specific folders to check.
I cannot explain how Outlook or any other mailer app suddenly became involved in a Word edit session without you having first invoked some kind of request to send, share, email a completed Word document to a mail recipient.
Problems with setting up Outlook should be directed to Microsoft.
