Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP 14 laptop running Windows 10 Home.  When trying to apply the 1803 update and cumulative update, the C DRIVE is in red and low on space therefore it will not apply the updates.  Looking further into space issue, it appears System & reserve is taking up the most space.

I need to make space to apply the updates.

Please provide the full model number of the laptop. How large is the hard drive?

I suspect you have a Stream?

If so, follow CherylG's tutorial https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/Windows-10-Updates/m-p/6875942/...

@ieee488

While I appreciate the linking to the other post, that is a CLEAN INSTALL -- which means it will erase EVERYTHING from the drive in the process of installing Win10.

I know her post says that, but there are a lot of posts there, and folks might miss that.

@pfisher

While you can use the link in the post that @ieee488 provided to do a CLEAN INSTALL of Win10 v1803, you need to understand up front that will erase EVERYTHING from your drive in the process of installing a new copy of Win10.

If you don't want to do that, here are some things you can do to recover some space from your "drive":

http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3012-disk-cleanup-open-use-windows-10-a.html
http://winaero.com/blog/how-to-clean-up-winsxs-folder-in-windows-10/

Also, the community Win10 Forums has the following suggestions:
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/83441-free-up-drive-space-windows-10-a.html

-----------------------

Also, if those don't recover enough space, you can still use the Win10 media you create using the post that @ieee488 links to, but instead of booting from that, insert it into your PC, find the folder containing it, find the setup.exe file, right-click on that and select Run as administrator.  This will attempt to perform a REPAIR-INSTALL, which will retain all your settings, data, and applications.  It might not work, but at least it will not erase your drive in the process.

Good Luck

Most likely I will perform a CLEAN install of WIN 10 and perform any updates after that.  BTW, the laptop is an HP 14-bw065nr model.
