HP Pavilion G50
Microsoft Windows Vista

I am having problems with my G50 won't allow me to install apps. Tried to use internal recovery; got a failed message after about 5 hours of trying. Then I tried my one of 3 recovery disks I made when I got this new. Again, invalid media error. So what can I do now to either reinstall VIsta or another Operating system. Thanks.

Sorry for the bad news, but with a Vista-era PC, you have few if any options for getting it working again.

The usual solution is to reinstall Windows using HP Recovery Media -- but HP has not carried Vista media in years and the other sites have not, either. So, you can't find it anymore.

MS also no longer provides downloads for Vista and the online sites that sell Windows also no longer sell Vista. So, you can't get it online, either.

The hardware is so old that no one today carries drivers for it, including HP, and if you tried to force Windows 10 onto it, you would find that MS probably won't have drivers for it, either.

And, even if they do, laptops need OEM drivers and MS does not supply those, so the drivers that MS installs will be generic and some hardware probably will not work well, if at all.

As to newer OSs, the only one that might work is Windows 7, but MS has stopped supporting that so if this PC accesses the Internet, it's going to get infected almost immediately.

Sorry, but the only realistic solution at this point is to junk it.
