Yes I was wondering sitting here with a SSD card in my laptop that is 128GB in size, is it possible to install a much larger one like say 1TB minimum, 2TB Maximum? Most of my problem is that I don't know what is compatible with what in this standard - and I as well do not know if the laptop has a hard limit to these drives size wize. I don't think they do as I saw an HP with a 4TB SSD (card) installed as an option you could order on a similar machine.

I know it would be much cheaper and easier to change the mechanical drive to an SSD, or remove the DVD player and add another disk there, but I already have a hybrid 2TB HDD/SSD for the primary DATA drive and need the space improvement on the C: drive side of things.

Today I ran out of room just trying to install Microsoft Visual Studio! Any help would be appreciated and if anyone knows of where there may be a compatibility list for the SSD card in this machine that would be even better as I know little about this standard. Thanks in advance,

Douglas W.

PS I know it is a massive PITA to work on these but I have done a few, so that should not be a consideration...

You need to remove the back panel as shown in the Manual here:

Manual

See p. 34

When you remove the back panel you will see the 2 TB drive in the lower left corner and the M.2 gumstick drive on the right side, which removes with a single screw. The laptop supports both the SATA and PCI-NVMe M.2 disks and you should get the latter as they are about 3 times as fast as SATA models. I recently did the same upgrade on my loaner Omen HP provides us for a year before we donate them to charity. It came with a 128 gig SATA M.2 and I upgraded to a 512 gig NVMe M.2.

The size of the M.2 is only limited by the thickness of your wallet and what is available on the market.

Here is a link to buy a 512, 1 TB or 2 TB Samsung 960 NVME:

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-960-PRO-Internal-MZ-V6P1T0BW/dp/B01LYRCIPG/ref=sr_1_fkmr3_1?ie=UTF8&q...

As you can see, these ain't cheap. 512 gig should be plenty given that you also have a 2 TB HDD.

Post back with any more questions as I have done this upgrade on multiple laptops. It's the hot upgrade right now as you can imagine.
