HP Notebook 17-X0115CY
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just bought this HP Notebook17-X015CY and before cramming it back in the box and returning it to QVC could somebody please tell me if Total Memory 4GB is the same thing as Installed RAM 8GB.  The first is what I find on the HP and the second on my old Toshiba laptop.  I've had one issue after another trying to get this new HP set up and when I call HP they tell me I don't have the warranty to answer my questions and I just received it May 27, 2017!  It also included a program with PCmover Professional which gives me errors and doesn't work and when I call them I'm told it'll cost about $200 for a technician to fix it.  I'm beyond disgusted and would appreciate any help anybody can give me!  Thank you.

Hey there! @linkays, Thanks for stopping by HP forums!

I understand you need to know the difference between total memory and installed RAM on your PC.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC?

If you are getting error usable memory may be less than the installed memory on Windows on your PC.

It means usable memory is a calculated amount of the total physical memory minus "hardware reserved" memory.

right-click Computer, and then click Properties.
View the Installed memory (RAM) value under System. For example, if it displays 4.00 GB (3.5 GB usable), this means that you have 3.5 GB of usable memory out of 4 GB of installed memory.

This problem may occur because the Maximum memory option is selected incorrectly. To fix this, follow these steps:
Click Start Windows icon, type msconfig in the Search programs and files box, and then click msconfig in the Programs list.
In the System Configuration window, click Advanced options on the Boot tab.
Click to clear the Maximum memory checkbox, and then click OK.
Restart the computer.

Try updating BIOS on your PC and check if it helps.

Let me know if this helps!

Have a wonderful day ahead! 🙂
