If Microsoft Safety Scanner is taking a long time or failing to complete on your HP2000 notebook running Windows 10 (64-bit), here are a few steps that you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Check for Updates
- Ensure your Windows 10 system is up-to-date by running Windows Update.
- Go to Start Menu > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
2. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
- Use HP Support Assistant to check for any hardware issues on your notebook.
- Open HP Support Assistant from the start menu, and run the diagnostics tools to ensure all hardware components are functioning properly.
3. Check for Other Installed Security Software
- Ensure that no other antivirus or security software is running as it might conflict with Microsoft Safety Scanner.
- Temporarily disable other security software while running the scan.
4. Run in Safe Mode
- Running the scan in Safe Mode can sometimes help, as fewer processes are running.
- Restart your computer and press F8 (or Shift+F8) during boot to enter Safe Mode and then run the scanner.
5. Try a Different Scanner
- If Microsoft Safety Scanner still does not finish the scan, consider using Windows Defender or another reputable antivirus program to perform a full system scan.
- Windows Defender can be accessed from Start Menu > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security.
6. Free Up System Resources
- Close unnecessary applications and background processes that might be consuming system resources.
- You can use Task Manager to view and end these processes.
7. Perform a Clean Boot
- Perform a clean boot to start Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs.
- Open Run (Win + R), type msconfig, go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, and click on Disable all.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
