Hi @Chantilly2,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can imagine how frustrating and even helpless it might feel when you're locked out of your own HP laptop because of a Microsoft account password issue. It’s like standing outside your own home with the key refusing to turn.

Let’s walk through this. You don’t need to delete Microsoft entirely, but you can switch to a local account if you prefer not to use a Microsoft login. Here's how to regain access and take control of your system:

Step 1: Recover Your Microsoft Account Password

Before removing Microsoft, try recovering your password:

  1. Go to Microsoft Account Recovery.
  2. Follow the prompts to reset your password using your email, phone, or recovery options.

If you regain access, you can then switch to a local account.

Step 2: Switch to a Local Account (No Microsoft Login Required)

Once you're logged in:

  1. Go to Settings → Accounts → Your Info.
  2. Click “Sign in with a local account instead”.
  3. Follow the steps to create a local username and password.

This way, you won’t need a Microsoft password to log in anymore.

Step 3: If You’re Locked Out Completely

If you can’t recover the password and are locked out:

  • Try booting into Safe Mode
    1. Turn off the laptop.
    2. Turn it on and immediately press F8 or Shift + F8 repeatedly.
    3. Choose Safe Mode with Networking.
    4. Try logging in or creating a new account.

If that doesn’t work, you may need to reset Windows using recovery options:

  • Hold Shift while clicking Restart from the login screen.
  • Choose Troubleshoot → Reset this PC.
  • You can keep your files or remove everything.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
