Hello ,

I have encountered a problem in recovery my HP Laptop to factory reset. It does not perform because of missing some files. It was tried several times to troubleshoot the missing files but I could not manage to get them back and still the problem for factory reset exists. Please let me know what is the useful solution  for this problem ? If I have to use recovery media please tell me how should I get healthy DVD/USB recovery image and then use it?

thank you for your time

Thank you for your response....

I had original windows 8.1 pre-installed on my HP Laptop. Is this link prepares downloading of my previous original windows ?

How should check the specifications of the downloadable windows?

Bests,

Yes plus updates using your original key. It is from Microsoft.

Thank you again Benhien ,

I contacted with Microsoft support , they said I need license key for creating media from the same link you mentioned above. However, I did not find the license key of my original windows.

As my windows was factory pre-installed OS, please let me know how can I have the related license ? or how can I try other solution to have recovery media of my previous OS ?

The key is in the BIOS of your machine, please use the following tool to get it:

   http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

When run this tool, it produces a report, scroll down to Manage all your software licenses section. Windows 8, 8.1 or 10 product key is in there.

You can also use the following tool to find out:

Dear Benhien

Thank you I followed the procedure you mentioned . First I prepared a media of Win 8.1  and then put it in my laptop and after recovery the OS came up . however, there are some new other problems.

1) My recovery drive (Drive E) is completely empty ,

2) a new drive (Drive D) in about 500MB has been made !! which I cannot shrink or expand it.

3)  the problem of factory reset from my hard disk because of missing some files has not yet solved. I still have to use media for any recovery windows.

are there any solution for these problems ?

regards,
