Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HDD drive failed on my laptop - complete failure, no operating system found.  Replaced with Samsung 870 EVO SSD.  When I attempt to load Windows 10 via USB, it cannot find the new SSD.  I thought maybe it was driver related so I put a Western Digital spinner (HDD) in it's place.  Still no joy, installation tells me it cannot find a drive.  I disabled Secure boot - no joy.  In BIOS/Boot Options there is no offering of SATA items (HDD,SSD) for boot order only "OS Boot Manager" then USB Hard Disk & USB DVD.  If I select OS Boot Manager, I get the error "OS Boot Manager is not found".  Is it possible HP put the boot manager on the hard drive? So, when the original hard drive is gone, so is the boot manager? Really?  Does anyone know if there is a way around this or a fix?  The unit is out of warranty by 65 days. 😞

Thanks in advance!

PS - firmware is V 1.6 and, from what I can tell, no way to update unless unit is functional.

Your notebook is also supported by the HP cloud recovery tool which you can use on another PC running W7 64 bit or newer to create a USB recovery drive that will reinstall Windows, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.

Here is an info link for how to use the utility...you will need a 32 GB USB flash drive to create the recovery media with.

HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10 | HP® Customer Support

The recovery drive should have the necessary storage controller driver preinstalled for it to find the SSD.

Thank you!  Used the HP Cloud Recovery and it worked fine.  Sure wish there was a little more widespread info out there about 11th Gen Intel chips and updated Intel Rapid Storage Drivers.  Would have made this search a whole lot quicker.

Thanks again for the spot on advice!  🙂
