HI @TBNY,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your laptop's touchpad is freezing or stuck, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue:

1. Restart Your Laptop

  • A simple restart can often fix temporary glitches.

2. Check for External Devices

  • If you have an external mouse connected, disconnect it and see if the touchpad starts working correctly.
  • Sometimes, a malfunctioning external device can interfere with the touchpad.

3. Update or Reinstall Touchpad Drivers

Device Manager:

  • Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
  • Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
  • Right-click on your touchpad device (it might be listed as Synaptics, ELAN, or something similar) and select Update driver. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

Reinstall Driver:

  • If updating doesn’t work, right-click the touchpad device and select Uninstall device. Restart your laptop, and Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.

4. Check Touchpad Settings

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
  • Make sure the touchpad is enabled and check the sensitivity settings.

5. Run the Hardware Troubleshooter

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
  • Scroll down to find Additional troubleshooters and run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter.

6. Check for Windows Updates

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for any pending updates. Install them if available.

7. Disable and Enable Touchpad

  • Sometimes toggling the touchpad off and on can resolve issues. Look for a function key (like Fn + F7 or similar) that disables/enables the touchpad.

8. Check for System Resource Issues

  • Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check if there are any processes consuming excessive resources that could be causing the touchpad to freeze.

9. Reset Touchpad Settings

  • Some laptops have specific software (like Synaptics or ELAN) for managing touchpad settings. Open that software (if available) and reset to default settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
