Hi @RowedR,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • The exact HP laptop model (e.g., HP Pavilion, HP Victus, HP EliteBook, etc.).
  • Whether the laptop powers on (lights, fan noise) even though the screen stays black.
  • If you see any blinking LEDs or hear beeps when pressing the power button.
  • Whether the system was plugged into AC power during the BIOS update.

Troubleshooting steps you can try:

 Basic Power Reset

  1. Disconnect the AC adapter
  2. Hold down the power button for 15–20 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the AC adapter (without battery if removable) and try powering on.

 BIOS Recovery Keys

  • You already tried WIN + B. Please also try WIN + V while pressing the power button.
  • Hold the keys until you hear beeps or see the screen attempt recovery.

 External Display Test

  • Connect your laptop to an external monitor via HDMI/DisplayPort.
  • This helps confirm if the system is booting but the internal display is not responding.

 HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • If the laptop powers on, press Esc repeatedly at startup to access the Startup Menu.
  • Select F2 – System Diagnostics to check hardware status.

I hope this helps.

Hi Deep-World

Many thanks for the reply.

The solution Win +V with the power button, as you described, solved the problem.

It would be interesting to know why a windows update can cause this problem.

Thanks again for your advice !

Best wishes
