Hi @rsettle5,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Your HP ENVY dv7 Notebook PC can support two‑finger scrolling, but only if the correct touchpad driver (Synaptics or ELAN) and settings are enabled. Let’s bring that feature back.

Step 1: Make Sure Two‑Finger Scrolling Is Enabled

Sometimes Windows simply unchecks the option.

  1. Press Windows + I to open Settings
  2. Click Devices (or Bluetooth & devices on Windows 11)
  3. Select Touchpad on the left
  4. Under Scroll & Zoom, turn on:
✔ “Drag two fingers to scroll”

This is exactly what HP’s support recommends as the first check.

Step 2: Update or Reinstall the Touchpad Driver

If the setting is missing, your touchpad driver may be outdated or removed.

  1. Press Windows + X → Device Manager
  2. Expand Mice and other pointing devices
  3. Right‑click your touchpad:
    • Synaptics TouchPad
    • ELAN TouchPad
    • or HID‑Compliant Touchpad
  4. Choose Update driver → Search automatically
  5. If it still doesn’t work:
    • Choose Uninstall device
    • Restart your laptop (Windows will reinstall it)

HP Support specifically recommends this when two‑finger scrolling fails.

Step 3: Use HP Support Assistant to Install the Correct Touchpad Driver

This ensures you get the official HP driver for the ENVY dv7.

  1. Open HP Support Assistant
  2. Go to My Devices
  3. Select your ENVY dv7
  4. Install any Touchpad or System updates available

This is an HP‑recommended method for resolving gesture issues.

Step 4: Run HP Hardware Diagnostics for the Touchpad

This tells us if the hardware is okay.

  1. Turn off your laptop
  2. Power it on and immediately press Esc repeatedly
  3. Press F2 for HP PC Hardware Diagnostics
  4. Choose Component Tests → Mouse/Touchpad → Run once

HP guidance suggests this test for touchpad issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
