HP Pavilion Notebook V5C49AV

My HP Pavilion Notebook V5C49AV keeps crashing.  It started crashing randomly quite some time ago.  Now it's getting worse.  The screen randomly goes black.  And I have to press the power button, which then starts blinking and I have to sign-in again.  Now it's happening a few times an hour.  Thanks for your advice and help. 🙂

For browser issues, you could reset the browser and update Java and Adobe Flash Player.

For Wireless issue, you could uninstall Wi-Fi drivers

  1. Using the search box on the taskbar, search for and open Device Manager.

  2. Double-click Network adapters.

    Figure: Double-clicking Network adapters

Device Manager with Network adapters highlighted
  3. Right-click the name of your wireless network adapter, and then select Uninstall device.

       NOTE:

If the name of the network adapter is missing from the network adapters category, the network adapter hardware is not connected or the device driver cannot Plug and Play. If this happens, shut down the computer and check the hardware connection to your wireless adapter hardware. Service the computer if problems are found.

    Figure: Clicking Uninstall device

Device Manager screen with the Wi-Fi adapter highlighted and the Uninstall device selection highlighted
  4. When the Uninstall Device screen displays, select Delete the driver software for this device if it displays, and then click Uninstall.

After the network adapter uninstalls, the name of the wireless adapter no longer appears in the network adapters category.

    Figure: Confirming Device Uninstall

Confirm Device Uninstall with Uninstall highlighted
  5. In the Device Manager window, make sure Network adapters is highlighted.

  6. In the Device Manager main menu, click Action, and then select Scan for hardware changes.

The computer reinstalls the wireless network, and the wireless network adapter name displays in the Network adapters category.

Figure: Selecting Scan for hardware changes

Selecting Scan for hardware changes on the Action menu
  7. After the network adapter name displays in Device Manager, close Device Manager and restart the computer.

  8. Try to connect to the Internet.

Reinstall Wi-Fi Drivers from HP Website https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers. For more information about downloading software, see Obtaining software and drivers.

For more troubleshooting steps, refer to this article: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04649175.

For HP Support Assistant, you could uninstall the app from (Control Panel> Programs and Features) and reinstall from the link https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04649175.

Have a great day 🙂

As I understand, your notebook keeps crashing.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

When was the last time it worked fine?

Have you tried any troubleshooting steps?

What is the error message?

I suggest you try troubleshooting steps from the link https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04718479.

Keep me posted!

Have a great day 🙂

Hi Flower_Bud,

Thanks for helping me wth this.

The crashing has been intermittent - several times an hour.

I think that I may have figured out what is causing this:

1.  The Opera Browser in Windows 10

2.  Use of Apache Open Office Word Processor in Windows 10.

I am now on Chrome.

And WPS instead of Apache.

No crashes since.

Will monitor next crash and give error message to you - if I see one.

When the crash happens, the display turns completely black, as if the computer is in 'sleep mode'.

I do not see a dialog box with an error message. The next time the crash happens I will look for a tooltip at the bottom left of the display .

Also weird is that Wi-Fi Adapter 2 keeps having to be reset!

I do all the Troubleshooting just about every day - especially the 'Full' Performance Tune Up.

Plus the Networking and Operating System troubleshooting.

I also was not able to download the newest Hardware Diagnostic UEFI from the HP Support Assistant on my computer.

It failed seven times!

But I was able to download and install it from the HP website!

I think that the link to download it is broken on the HP Support Assistant.

I did see one recent error message that my lack of internet was due to a javascript diagnostic error....

Thanks!!!

Best Regards,

Hi Flower Bud,

Thanks again for helping me with all this!  I will perform all the steps which you outlined and keep you updated.

We are making progress!  Yesterday the computer ran like new and did not crash at all - no matter which apps I used.

Today, it crashed in Opera while replying to a Yahoo Group email. And then when I rebooted, the WiFi 2 Adapter did not have a valid IP Configuration.

So, I will take the time, and perform all the steps you have provided.

I should never use Opera again, especially with Yahoo Email.  The technical folks at Yahoo told me not to use Opera and that they do not support it.  I like Opera's UI, but on to Chrome and Firefox instead....

Best Regards,

Laraine
