My printer/ scanner suddenly does not run the scanning paper through the machine. My computer detects the scanner, and the paper sets up properly when pushed  into place, but there is no engine noise and the paper does not move through the scanner. I have an HP Office Jet Pro 6968

Hi @Susan1081,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro printer/scanner is not feeding paper through the scanner when you try to scan, there are several troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the issue.

  • Check for Paper Jams: Open the scanner lid and check for any paper jams or obstructions in the paper path. Even a small piece of paper or debris can prevent the scanner from working correctly.
  • Check Paper Size and Type: Ensure that you are using the correct size and type of paper for scanning. Some scanners have limitations on the paper size they can handle, and using the wrong type of paper can cause feeding issues.
  • Clean the Scanner Bed: Dust and dirt on the scanner glass can affect the scanning process. Clean the scanner glass and the automatic document feeder (if your model has one) using a lint-free cloth and glass cleaner.
  • Restart the Printer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve scanning issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a few seconds, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Update or Reinstall Drivers: Outdated or corrupted printer/scanner drivers can cause scanning problems. Visit the HP website and make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your printer model.
  • Adjust Paper Guides: Ensure that the paper guides in the paper tray are set to the correct paper size and are holding the paper securely in place.
  • Check for Firmware Updates: Updating the printer's firmware can sometimes resolve scanning issues. Check the HP website for firmware updates for your printer model.
  • Reset the Printer: If none of the above steps work, you can try resetting the printer to its default settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
