@usausa, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
On your HP Chromebook 14a-ne0000 (68J70AV), if the "Search and Assistant" settings or Google Assistant options are missing, here’s how you can troubleshoot and potentially fix the issue:
Make sure your Chromebook is up to date
- Click on the clock at the bottom-right.
- Select Settings ⚙️.
- Scroll to the bottom and click About ChromeOS.
- Click Check for updates.
If there’s an update, install it and restart.
Enable Google Assistant manually via search
Sometimes the "Search and Assistant" section doesn’t appear under “System Preferences,” but it can be accessed this way:
- Open Settings.
- Use the Search bar at the top and type: Assistant
- If available, a result should say "Google Assistant" or "Enable Google Assistant" — click it.
- If that still doesn’t show anything:
Advanced Fix: Enable via Chrome Flags
Google Assistant may be disabled by default on some Chromebook models or configurations, especially if you're in a managed (school/work) environment.
To enable it via experimental flags:
- Open Chrome browser.
- Go to:
chrome://flags/#enable-assistant
- Change "Enable Assistant" to Enabled.
- Click Restart when prompted.
You can also try this flag:
chrome://flags/#enable-native-google-assistant
Additional Notes:
Google Assistant is not available on all Chromebooks or in all regions.
If your device is managed by an organization (school/work), Assistant may be disabled by policy, and you won’t be able to enable it without administrator access.
After Enabling, Set It Up:
- Go to Settings > Search and Assistant (it should now appear).
- Enable Google Assistant.
- Toggle “Hey Google” or “OK Google” to On.
- Follow the voice setup prompts.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
