Hi @Srinidhi23,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop shuts down automatically exactly after one hour, it could be due to several reasons. Here are some possible causes and solutions.
Power Settings
- Check your power settings, especially the Sleep or Hibernate modes.
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
- Look for settings related to Sleep and Hibernate under Sleep or Power buttons and lid and set them to Never or adjust the timers.
Overheating
- Overheating can cause your laptop to shut down to protect its internal components.
- Ensure your laptop is on a hard, flat surface with good airflow.
- Clean the vents using compressed air to remove dust and improve ventilation.
- Monitor the temperature using software like HWMonitor to check if it overheats after an hour.
Battery or Power Supply Issues
- If there is a problem with the battery or the power supply, the laptop might shut down after a certain amount of time.
- Try running the laptop while plugged in without the battery to see if the issue persists.
- Alternatively, check the Battery Health via HP's Battery Check tool (found in HP Support Assistant).
System or Software Issues
- It could be due to a system or software conflict, such as a scheduled task or malfunctioning driver.
- Boot into Safe Mode and check if the problem still occurs. If it doesn't, the issue may be related to a third-party program or driver.
- Try running Windows Update or reinstalling any recent updates to ensure all drivers are up to date.
Event Viewer Logs
- Check Windows Event Viewer to see if any errors or warnings are logged around the time of shutdown.
- Press Win + X > Event Viewer.
- Go to Windows Logs > System, and look for critical events around the time your laptop shuts down.
Hardware Issues
- If none of the above resolves the issue, it may be a hardware problem. A failing component, such as the motherboard or RAM, could cause a timed shutdown.
- Run the HP Hardware Diagnostics tool (press Esc during startup and select Diagnostics) to check for hardware issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
