Hi, I suddenly can’t get my HP… Intel Core 17 8th gen to fire up. I turn it on and I enter the password to get in but then I just get a black grey screen with a lonely cursor. When I hit control alt del, the black screen tells me that the computer’s internal battery may be reduced.
can you help me out with this.
thanks, Ray Wilson.

@Raymond701, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Black Screen Issues on HP Laptop!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
It seems like you're experiencing a black screen issue on your HP laptop right after logging in. Here are some steps that might help you resolve this issue:
Check Battery Health:
- Since the message mentions that your internal battery may be reduced, you might want to check your battery's health. If your battery is malfunctioning, it can cause various issues including boot problems.
Hard Reset Your Laptop:
- Perform a hard reset by disconnecting all peripherals, holding down the power button for about 15 seconds, then restarting the laptop.
Boot in Safe Mode:
- Try booting into Safe Mode to see if the issue persists:
- Restart your computer.
- During the boot process, press the F8 key repeatedly until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears.
- Select Safe Mode using the arrow keys and press Enter.
Update Drivers:
- In Safe Mode, update your display driver:
- Right-click on the Start button, then go to Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click on your graphics driver and select Update driver.
Run System File Checker:
- The black screen could be due to corrupted system files. Running a system file checker might help:
- Open Command Prompt (Admin) via the Start button's right-click menu.
- Type sfc /scannow and press Enter.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
