So before today my computer has been acting odd. My screen would turn black, meaning I had to close, and then open my device to get it to work. Just today I grabbed my computer and it did not turn on at all. I have tried charging it and turning it on, and turning it on during charging.
I am wondering if there is any way to fix this myself, or if I need to see someone to fix this, and if I have to fix it, how?

Hi @_Audrey_,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP laptop might be experiencing a hardware issue. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.
Hard Reset:
- Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, printer, etc.).
- Unplug the power adapter and remove the battery (if it’s removable).
- Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to discharge any residual power.
- Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then try turning it on.
Check the Power Supply:
- Ensure the power adapter is properly connected and functioning. Test with another compatible power adapter if available.
- Verify that the charging port and the adapter's connector are not damaged.
Inspect the Battery:
- If your laptop's battery is removable, try starting the laptop with the battery removed and the power adapter connected.
Test with an External Monitor:
- Connect your laptop to an external monitor to see if the issue might be with the laptop’s display. If the external monitor shows the display, the problem may be with your laptop’s screen or related components.
Perform a BIOS Recovery:
- For some HP laptops, you can attempt a BIOS recovery. Turn off the laptop, then press and hold the Windows key and the B key simultaneously while pressing the power button. Release the keys when you see the HP logo. Follow on-screen instructions if any appear.
Listen for Beeps:
- When powering on, listen for any beeps or indicator lights. Beep codes can sometimes indicate specific hardware issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
