Hi @KWalker1357,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop shows a white charging light but won't power on, it suggests the battery may be charging but the laptop isn't responding to the power button. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Disconnect the charger from the laptop.
  • Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  • Reconnect the charger and try turning on the laptop again.

Check for a Static Charge Issue

  • If your laptop has a removable battery, remove it:
    • Turn off the laptop and unplug it.
    • Remove the battery and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds.
    • Reinsert the battery, plug in the charger, and try powering it on.
  • If the battery is non-removable, skip this step and proceed with other troubleshooting.

Inspect the Charger and Port

  • Verify the charging light turns on (white or amber) when connected to the charger.
  • Check if the charger or charging port is loose or damaged.
  • Test the charger on another compatible device if possible or use another charger on your laptop.

Check the Display

  • It's possible the laptop is turning on, but the display is not working.
  • Shine a flashlight on the screen while pressing the power button. If you see faint images, the backlight or display may be malfunctioning.
  • Alternatively, connect the laptop to an external monitor or TV via HDMI to check if it outputs a signal.

Try Booting Without Accessories

  • Disconnect all peripherals (USB drives, external hard drives, etc.).
  • Attempt to turn on the laptop with only the charger connected.

Test for BIOS/UEFI Recovery

  • Press and hold the Windows + B keys, then press and hold the power button for 2-3 seconds, and release the power button while still holding the Windows + B keys.
  • This can trigger a BIOS recovery if the laptop's firmware is corrupted.

Check for Hardware Issues

  • If the above steps don't work, the issue might be related to:
    • A faulty battery.
    • A damaged power button.
    • A failed motherboard or charging circuit.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
