Dear hp Community,

My Laptop hp Pavillon 15-cs3300ng is making a very loud noice from the left fan that does not stop. Reducing the CPU in the Task Manager by closing the applications that have high CPU, has reduced the noise of the fan, but it is still present and loud. I let it make the noise for a while then I knock gently on the upper part of the laptop where thenoise comes from andit slow down and stops to come again after a while and does not stop.  I let it make the noise for a while then I knock gently on the upper part of the Laptop, then the noise stops and the fan works silently. I noted that my Laptop has never been hot. So I guess the problem is a BIOS problem. I updated the BIOS from F.04 to F.23 a while ago. After the recent Windows 11 automatic updated The Fan noise started to be so loud. Please kindly guide me through checking BIOS fan control options.  Also please guide me through preparing a fan replacement checklist in case I need to replace the left fan.

Thank you so very much.

Best regards,

MIC2001

Hi @MIC2001

I’m truly sorry this grinding fan noise continues to disrupt your experience, especially after updating BIOS and trying every software-based solution.

You’ve done an excellent job narrowing it down, and I’ll guide you through checking BIOS fan control options and preparing a fan replacement checklist.

Step-by-step: Check BIOS fan control settings on HP Pavilion 15-cs3300ng

Enter BIOS Setup

  • Power off your laptop.
  • Power it on and immediately press Esc, then F10 to enter BIOS Setup.

Navigate to Advanced Settings

  • Use the arrow keys to go to the Advanced or System Configuration tab.
  • Look for Fan Always On or Thermal Configuration.

Adjust Fan Settings

  • If Fan Always On is enabled, set it to Disabled.
  • If available, set Thermal Mode to Quiet or Balanced.
  • Save changes by pressing F10, then select Yes to confirm.

If these options are missing, your BIOS version may not support manual fan curve control. In that case, firmware-level behavior is fixed and cannot be adjusted.

Fan Replacement Checklist for HP Pavilion 15-cs3300ng

If the grinding persists despite BIOS and software adjustments, the fan may be physically worn or misaligned. Here’s how to prepare for a replacement:

1. Identify the correct fan part

2. Tools required

  • Precision screwdriver set (typically Phillips #0 or #1)
  • Plastic pry tools or spudger
  • Anti-static wrist strap (recommended)

3. Steps to replace the fan

  1. Power off and unplug the laptop.
  2. Remove the bottom panel screws and gently pry open the casing.
  3. Locate the fan near the top-left corner (above the keyboard).
  4. Disconnect the fan cable from the motherboard.
  5. Unscrew and remove the fan assembly.
  6. Install the new fan, reconnect the cable, and reassemble the panel.

If you're not comfortable opening the laptop, a technician can perform this safely.

Let me know how the BIOS settings appear and whether the fan options are accessible. If replacement becomes necessary, I can help you verify the exact part number and guide you through sourcing it.

You’ve done everything right by staying persistent—I’ll be here to support you further if needed.
