My OMEN 15 Gaming laptop is capped at 60 fps on every single game. I remember it was fine earlier, running above 60fps in most games, however, now I am stuck.
I have a 144hz external Acer monitor, and Win10 display settings are at 144hz for 1920x1080.
I had v-sync on the default Nvidia setting as "use the 3D application setting", and then tried switching it OFF. But the results in both cases are the same, FPS capped at 60fps.
Omen Gaming Hub settings at Hybrid and Balanced.
I have an i7-10750H and RTX2070 Max-Q with 16 GB RAM, so I normally have plenty of raw power to hit above 100fps in most games.

Hi @Mecaniq,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've already checked some of the common settings that could cause a frame rate cap. Here are a few additional things you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.
- Check Power Settings: Make sure your laptop is set to High Performance in the power settings. Sometimes, power plans can affect the performance of the GPU.
- Update Graphics Drivers: Ensure that your graphics drivers are up to date. Visit the Nvidia website and download the latest drivers for your RTX 2070 Max-Q. Outdated or corrupt drivers can sometimes cause performance issues.
- BIOS Update: Check if there are any BIOS updates available for your laptop. Sometimes, manufacturers release updates that can address performance or compatibility issues.
- Temperature Monitoring: Monitor your laptop's temperatures while gaming. If the temperatures are too high, the system may throttle performance to prevent overheating. Use software like MSI Afterburner or HWMonitor to check temperatures.
- Windows Game Mode: Disable or enable Windows Game Mode to see if it has any impact on your frame rate. You can find this setting in the Windows Settings under Gaming.
- Nvidia Control Panel Settings: Open the Nvidia Control Panel and check if there are any specific settings affecting the frame rate. For example, look for settings related to vertical sync (V-Sync) and set them to "Application-Controlled."
- Check In-Game Settings: Ensure that the in-game settings are configured properly. Some games have their own frame rate limits in the settings. Make sure you don't have a cap set within the game itself.
- Windows Update: Make sure Windows is fully updated. Sometimes, Windows updates can also impact gaming performance.
- Background Processes: Check for any background processes or applications that might be using up system resources. Close unnecessary applications and processes before gaming.
- Restore to Previous State: If you remember when the issue started, try using System Restore to revert your system to a previous state where the problem did not exist.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Dear Alden4,
Thank you for all the suggestions. I did check all your points, I had most of them already in line with your proposals (e.g. Nvidia drivers, V-sync settings, power settings). The only big difference was BIOS update and I updated the BIOS, but I am still capped at 60fps. I do not think it is a temperature issue, because most of the time the FPS stays at 60fps pointing to a possible limiter somewhere in the system.
Is there anything within BIOS that might cap the FPS?
