My Spectre Folio Convertible is working great for a year. The warranty was expired in September 2020.
Last week I got a notification from Windows about latest October 2020 update available. I went ahead and update to latest release. Right after upgrade, the laptop continue turning to black screen with CAPS LOCK blinking code 4.2 (A CPU overheating condition detected.*).
Since then, the laptop is unusable. I can turn on the laptop and within couple minutes using it, the laptop display is turning black with same CAPS LOCK code. If I leave the laptop in BIOS setup screen, the display is still on until I boot into Windows and using Windows, the laptop will turn black within couple minutes.
I can see the laptop is cool as before upgrade. Not sure if some false alarm trigger the hardware shutdown.

I reviewed your post and I understand that the computer is shutting down with is overheating message.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
I recommend you update the BIOS and the graphics driver from the below link and check whether the issue is resolved.
BIOS: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp105501-106000/sp105692.exe
Graphics: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp104001-104500/sp104282.exe
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

I re-installed Windows 10 and run update to latest version Windows 10 Home 1909, OS build 18363.1198.
I can updated to BIOS with the link above, current BIOS version: Insyde F.35 5/27/2020
I tried to update graphics package, but it said the driver is not for this windows version.
So far the laptop has been up for an hour without shutdown with overhead Caps lock message.
I will keep using it for a week and update status.
Thanks for your help.
