Hi @katlike,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If you're locked out of your administrator account on your HP laptop running Windows 11 and want to start fresh without resetting the entire PC, here are a few safe options you can try:

Option 1: Create a New Administrator Account via Safe Mode

If you can boot into Safe Mode, you may be able to create a new admin account:

🔹 Steps:

  1. Restart your PC and press Shift + F8 or Shift + Restart to enter Advanced Startup Options.
  2. Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart.
  3. Choose Safe Mode with Command Prompt.
  4. In the Command Prompt, type: net user NewAdminName NewPassword /add
                                                            net localgroup administrators NewAdminName /add
  5. Restart and log in with the new account.

Option 2: Use Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE)

If Safe Mode doesn’t work:

  1. Force shut down your laptop 3 times to trigger WinRE.
  2. Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Command Prompt.
  3. Use the same commands above to create a new admin account.

Option 3: Use a Password Reset Disk or Microsoft Account Recovery

If your admin account is linked to a Microsoft account:

⚠️ Important Notes

  • You cannot delete the original admin account unless you have access to another admin account.
  • If none of these work, you may need to reset Windows while keeping your files:
    • Go to Troubleshoot > Reset this PC > Keep my files.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
