Hi @KIMBERLY20201,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you've already tried a factory reset, updates, and ruled out the privacy camera button, there are a few additional steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially fix the issue with your Chromebook's built-in camera:

Check Camera Permissions:

  • Make sure that you have granted the necessary permissions for camera access. Go to "Settings" > "Privacy and security" > "Site settings" > "Camera." Ensure that the site or app you're using has permission to access your camera.

Check for Chromebook Updates:

  • Ensure that your Chromebook is running the latest version of Chrome OS. Go to "Settings" > "About Chrome OS" > "Check for Updates" to make sure you have the latest software.

Powerwash:

  • A Powerwash is different from a regular factory reset. It's like reinstalling the Chrome OS. Go to "Settings" > "Advanced" > "Powerwash" and follow the instructions. Be sure to back up your important data before doing this, as it will erase everything on your device.

Check in Guest Mode:

  • Sign in as a guest to your Chromebook and see if the camera works. If it does, the issue might be related to your user profile. You could try creating a new user account and see if the camera works there.

Check for Hardware Issues:

  • If the camera still doesn't work, it might be a hardware issue.

Use a Chromebook Diagnostic Tool:

  • Chromebooks have a built-in diagnostic tool that you can use to check various hardware components, including the camera. To access this, press Esc + Refresh + Power simultaneously. Follow the on-screen instructions for running diagnostics.

Check Chrome Flags:

  • Type chrome://flags in the address bar and press Enter. Look for features related to the camera and reset them to default if necessary.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
