@Landeng, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're seeing the error:

"The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click OK to restart the computer, and then restart the installation."

This typically occurs when Windows Setup is interrupted or corrupted. Here's how you can resolve it:

Solution: Modify Registry to Resume Installation

  1. When the error message appears, press Shift + F10 to open the Command Prompt.
  2. In the Command Prompt, type the following and press Enter:

   regedit

  1. In the Registry Editor, navigate to:

   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\Status\ChildCompletion

  1. On the right pane, double-click setup.exe.
  2. Change the Value data from 1 to 3, then click OK.
  3. Close the Registry Editor and Command Prompt.
  4. Click OK on the error message to restart the system.

Windows Setup should now continue normally.

If That Doesn’t Work:

You may need to perform a clean installation of Windows using a bootable USB drive:

  1. Use another PC to download the Windows Media Creation Tool.
  2. Create a bootable USB drive (at least 8GB).
  3. Insert the USB into your HP notebook and boot from it.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall Windows.

Note: This will erase all data on the drive, so proceed only if you're okay with that or have backups.
