My HP laptop, 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-fd0000 was operating fine last night but when I went to turn it on this morning it would not boot up. It says critical process died. I have been through all of the online help from HP and nothing has helped.

Hi @JRSchwingman,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Product. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.
It seems like your HP laptop is encountering the "Critical Process Died" error, which typically indicates that a critical system process responsible for running the operating system has stopped unexpectedly. This error can occur due to various reasons, such as corrupted system files, incompatible drivers, hardware issues, or software conflicts.
Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue:
Restart Your Computer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary issues. If you haven't already, try restarting your laptop and see if the problem persists.
Boot into Safe Mode: Try booting your computer into Safe Mode. Safe Mode loads only essential system drivers and services, which can help isolate the issue. To boot into Safe Mode:
- Turn on your laptop.
- As soon as it starts booting, press the F8 key repeatedly until you see the Advanced Boot Options menu.
- Select "Safe Mode" from the list and press Enter.
- Once in Safe Mode, you can troubleshoot further.
System Restore: If your laptop was working fine before, you can try performing a System Restore to revert your system files and settings to a previous state when your laptop was functioning correctly.
- Boot into Advanced Startup Options (you can do this by pressing F8 during boot or using a Windows installation media).
- Choose "Troubleshoot" > "Advanced Options" > "System Restore" and follow the on-screen instructions.
Check Disk for Errors: Your hard drive might have developed errors that are causing the issue. You can run the built-in Windows utility called Check Disk (chkdsk) to scan and fix any disk errors:
- Boot into Advanced Startup Options.
- Choose "Command Prompt".
- In the Command Prompt window, type chkdsk /f /r and press Enter.
- Follow the prompts to schedule the disk check and restart your computer.
Update Device Drivers: Outdated or incompatible device drivers can cause the "Critical Process Died" error. Try updating your device drivers, especially graphics and chipset drivers, to the latest version available from the HP website. Software and Drivers for HP Laptop 15-fd0010nr (7F5H4UA)
Perform System File Checker (SFC) Scan: This tool scans and repairs corrupted system files that might be causing the issue.
- Boot into Advanced Startup Options.
- Choose "Command Prompt".
- In the Command Prompt window, type sfc /scannow and press Enter.
- Wait for the scan to complete and follow any on-screen instructions.
Check for BIOS Updates: Sometimes, BIOS updates address compatibility issues and can resolve such errors. Check the HP website for any available BIOS updates for your laptop model and install them if necessary.
