hp envy 15
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
Hi, I have my hp envy 15 notebook. And it was working fine till yesterday when I put it in hibernation mode. Later when I tried to switch it back on it didn't display anything. Just gave me a black screen. I long pressed the power button to turn it off, then switched it on again, I could see hear the fan rolling but the screen remained black. I have tried disconnecting the power code, the peripheral devices, and even the battery and held the power button for about 30 seconds and reconnected the battery, but when I tried switching it on, it still gave me a blank screen with only the fan rolling. Please help!!!!

Hi Flash708,

I mean the button carrying letter B on keyboard.

If problem persist after bios rollback. You can identify your unit issue from this chart which describing which blinking code related with which hardware below.

@Flash708

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that you have an HP ENVY x360 - 15-u437cl and it no longer boots into Windows. You can see that the laptop has powered on and can hear the fan spinning but there is no display. I read that you have performed a hard reset and the issue persists. You've done a remarkable job performing the steps.

To provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Do you see any blinking lights on the laptop (caps lock, num lock, power button light)?
  • Do you hear any beep sounds?
  • Do you have an external monitor to connect to the laptop and check if there is a display on it?

Meanwhile, I suggest you to perform the steps from the dedicated HP troubleshooter guide to isolate and fix the issue.

I hope this information helps. Keep me posted. Cheers! 🙂

Hi Flash708,

Please find steps that i shared below;

- Unplug all usb devices,battery and power cord.

- Press and Hold "Power Button" for 30 sec.

- After that, Plug battery and power cord in again.

-  Power on again and check status of your device.

If problem persist, Most probably your device has bios corruption issue.

Please find steps that i shared about bios rollback below;

  1. Turn off the computer.
  2. Plug the notebook into a power source using the power adapter.
  3. With the computer off, press and hold the Windows logo key and the B key at the same time.
  4. Still pressing those keys, press and hold down the Power button on the computer for 2 to 3 seconds, and then release the Power button but continue to hold the Windows and B keys until the BIOS update screen is displayed or until you hear a beeping sound (usually 8 beeps).
  5. The power LED light remains on, and the screen remains blank for about 40 seconds before anything appears on the display. You might also hear beeping sounds. Eventually, an HP BIOS Update screen displays and the BIOS update begins automatically.

Thanks,

@ Mkazi
Yes I can see blinking lights on the pc. The caps lock blinks.
No beeping sounds are heard.
I tried connecting it to an external monitor but nothing was displayed. In fact it couldn't even detect that it was connected to the pc.

Hi _Cagin,
That seems like a good idea, but there is this one slight problem. My pc doesn't have the B button! Or do you mean the button carrying letter be on the keyboard! !!!

I have tried to observe the caps lock blinking sequence, and it gives one long blink over and over again. Does that mean the processor is the problem!!!!???

Hi Flash708,

Thanks for your answer.

Most probably the issue is happening because of CPU but I highly recommend that you should call to HP support line to make it clear.

Have a nice day
