Hi @LebohangMdolela,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop won’t restart after being unused for years, it could be due to several factors, like a drained battery, corrupted system files, or hardware degradation. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you get it working again:
1. Check Power Supply
- Plug the laptop into a known working wall outlet using the original charger.
- Look for any LED indicators near the charging port or keyboard.
- If no lights appear, try a different compatible charger if available.
2. Perform a Hard Reset
- Disconnect the charger and remove the battery (if removable).
- Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
- Reconnect the battery and charger, then try powering it on.
3. Try Booting Without Battery
- If the battery is removable, take it out and plug in just the charger.
- Press the power button and see if it boots.
4. Check for Signs of Life
- Listen for fan noise, beeps, or screen flicker.
- If you hear beeps, note the pattern; they can indicate hardware issues.
5. Connect to External Monitor
- If the screen stays black, connect the laptop to an external monitor via HDMI or VGA to check if it’s a display issue.
6. Inspect for Dust or Corrosion
- If you're comfortable opening the laptop, check for dust buildup or corrosion on the battery terminals or motherboard.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
