Lost my windows product key as the disk was formatted. I only have the serial number of hp laptop. How can I recover the windows product key

You're very welcome.

 

Unfortunately, there is nothing you will be able to do in order to get another W7 product key.

 

Neither HP nor Microsoft keeps any records of product keys assigned to individual PC's.

 

You can see if you can order W7 recovery media from this vendor at the link below.

 

It should not need a product key to work.

Hi:

 

If your notebook came with W8, 8.1 or W10, the product key is in the BIOS, and you will not need it to reinstall Windows 8.1 or W10.

 

With W8, you can clean install W8.1 and use the W8 product key in your notebook's BIOS to activate the installation.

 

If it came with W7 or older, there should be a 25 character product key on a Microsoft COA label on your notebook's case.

Thanks for the reply. Laptop came with windows 7 and microsoft label  is on the notebook case but it is not clear and erased. Is there any other way to retrieve from hp with the serial no.
