HP Pavilion 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop PC 15-ec2000 (2P6B3AV
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

My HP Pavilion 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop PC 15-ec2000 (2P6B3AV is having issues booting up. I was on the windows log in screen and my laptops keyboard wasn’t working (had no inputs) so I restarted it using the power button. When it began booting up it was stuck on the booting up screen and I still don’t have keyboard inputs and it just says preparing automatic repair. I don’t know if this is a hardware issue or if it’s just bricked.

Hi @Majormini,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

If your HP Pavilion 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop PC 15-ec2000 (2P6B3AV) is stuck on the "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen and the keyboard isn't responding, you can try the following steps to resolve the issue:

1. Perform a Hard Reset

A hard reset can clear any minor firmware glitches that may be preventing your laptop from booting properly.

Turn off the Laptop:

  • Press and hold the power button for about 10-15 seconds until the laptop completely powers off.

Disconnect All Peripherals:

  • Unplug all external devices (e.g., USB drives, printers, external monitors).

Remove the Battery (if possible):

  • If your laptop has a removable battery, remove it.

Press and Hold Power Button:

  • With the battery removed and power adapter disconnected, press and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds.

Reconnect the Battery and Power Adapter:

  • Reinstall the battery and plug in the power adapter.

Power On the Laptop:

  • Turn on your laptop and see if it boots normally.

2. Boot into Safe Mode

Booting into Safe Mode can help identify if the issue is caused by software or drivers.

Interrupt the Boot Process:

  • Turn off your laptop using the power button.
  • Turn it on and immediately press the power button again to turn it off. Repeat this process 2-3 times until you see the "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen.

Access Advanced Options:

  • On the "Automatic Repair" screen, select Advanced options.
  • Navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings.
  • Click Restart, then press F4 to boot into Safe Mode.

Check Keyboard Functionality:

  • Once in Safe Mode, check if your keyboard is working. If it is, you may need to uninstall any recent software or drivers that could be causing the issue.

3. Use System Restore

If Safe Mode doesn't work, you can try restoring your system to a previous state.

Access Advanced Options:

  • Follow the steps above to get to the Advanced options screen.

Select System Restore:

  • Navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > System Restore.
  • Choose a restore point before the issue started and follow the on-screen instructions.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Majormini,

Please find the next steps below.

4. Run Startup Repair

Startup Repair can fix problems that are preventing Windows from loading.

Access Advanced Options:

  • Follow the steps above to get to the Advanced Options screen.

Select Startup Repair:

  • Navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to run the repair tool.

5. Check for Hardware Issues

If the problem persists, it may be related to a hardware issue.

  1. Run Hardware Diagnostics:
    • Turn off the laptop and press the power button to turn it back on. Immediately press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
    • Press F2 to open the System Diagnostics.
    • Run the tests, especially the keyboard and hard drive tests, to check for hardware issues.

6. Reinstall Windows

If none of the above steps work, you may need to reinstall Windows.

Create a Windows 11 Installation Media:

  • Use another computer to create a Windows 11 installation USB drive from the Microsoft website.

Boot from the USB Drive:

  • Insert the USB drive into your laptop and turn it on.
  • Press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears, then press F9 to open the Boot Device Options.
  • Select the USB drive and press Enter.

Reinstall Windows:

  • Follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall Windows. Be sure to back up your data if possible before proceeding with this step.

To resolve the booting issue on your HP Pavilion 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop PC 15-ec2000, perform a hard reset, boot into Safe Mode, use System Restore, run Startup Repair, check for hardware issues, and consider reinstalling Windows if necessary.

If the issue persists, it may be a more serious hardware problem, and you should contact HP Phone Support for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
