Hi @Sutto7,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting the "Choose your keyboard layout" screen that typically appears when there is an issue with the operating system, and Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) is launched.

Here are some steps to try and resolve this issue:

Restart your Laptop:

  • Sometimes a simple restart can resolve the issue. Press and hold the power button for 10-15 seconds to force a shutdown. Then, turn the laptop back on.

Use System Restore:

  • If restarting doesn't help, you can try restoring your system to a previous state.
  • Select your keyboard layout to proceed.
  • Click on Troubleshoot > Advanced options > System Restore.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to restore your system to a point when it was working correctly.

Startup Repair:

  • If System Restore doesn’t work, you can try Startup Repair.
  • Select your keyboard layout to proceed.
  • Click on Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions. Windows will try to diagnose and fix startup issues.

Rebuild the BCD (Boot Configuration Data):

  • Sometimes, rebuilding the BCD can resolve boot issues.
  • Select your keyboard layout to proceed.
  • Click on Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt.
  • In the Command Prompt, type the following commands one by one, pressing Enter after each: bootrec /fixmbr
    bootrec /fixboot
    bootrec /scanos
    bootrec /rebuildbcd

  • Restart your computer after the process completes.

Reset this PC:

  • If none of the above solutions work, you can reset your PC.
  • Select your keyboard layout to proceed.
  • Click on Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
  • You can choose to either keep your files or remove everything. Follow the on-screen instructions to reset your PC.

Check for Hardware Issues:

  • If the problem persists, it might be due to a hardware issue. Ensure all internal components (RAM, SSD, etc.) are properly seated.

Use a Windows Installation Media:

  • If the above steps don't resolve the issue, you might need to use a Windows installation media (USB or DVD) to repair or reinstall Windows.
  • Create a bootable USB/DVD using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool.
  • Boot from the USB/DVD and choose Repair your computer.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to repair or reinstall Windows.

I hope this helps.
