Hi @MrsMoore18,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

A sluggish or hesitant cursor on your HP laptop can be due to a few reasons, such as touchpad settings, outdated drivers, or system performance issues. Here are some troubleshooting steps to try.

Adjust Touchpad Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad (or Mouse on some models).
  • Check and adjust cursor speed and sensitivity. Set it to a faster or higher sensitivity if it’s too slow.

Update or Reinstall Touchpad Drivers:

  • Open Device Manager (right-click the Start button > Device Manager).
  • Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
  • Right-click your touchpad driver (often labeled as Synaptics or ELAN) and choose Update driver.
  • If no update is available, you may uninstall it and restart your laptop, which should reinstall the default driver automatically.

Check for System Resource Usage:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  • Check if there are any apps or processes using excessive CPU, memory, or disk, which can slow down your system and the cursor.

Disable Touchpad Delay (Windows 10):

  • In Settings > Devices > Touchpad, find the Touchpad delay option.
  • Set it to No delay (always on) if you see this option.

Run HP Diagnostics:

  • Use the HP Support Assistant app to run diagnostics on the touchpad and check for any hardware issues.

Check for System Updates:

  • Ensure Windows and HP-specific software (through HP Support Assistant) are up-to-date, as updates can include important performance improvements and bug fixes.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
