Hi @Navya12,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Overheating and blue screen errors on your HP laptop could indicate a hardware or software issue. Here's how you can troubleshoot.

Immediate Cooling

  1. Power Off:
    • Shut down your laptop and let it cool down for at least 20-30 minutes.
  2. Ensure Proper Ventilation:
    • Place the laptop on a hard, flat surface.
    • Avoid using it on soft surfaces like beds or couches that block airflow.

Check Hardware

Clean the Fans and Vents:

  • Dust buildup can block airflow, causing overheating. Use compressed air to clean the vents.
  • If you're comfortable, open the back panel (if allowed) to clean internal fans carefully.

Verify the Thermal Paste (if overheating persists):

  • If the laptop is older, the thermal paste between the CPU/GPU and heat sink might have dried out and needs replacing.

Check for Blue Screen Error Details

  1. Record the Error Code:
    • When the blue screen appears, note the error code (e.g., IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL or PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA).
    • If the screen flashes too quickly, boot into Windows, go to Control Panel > Security and Maintenance > Reliability Monitor, and check for details.

Update Drivers

Update Device Drivers:

  • Ensure your system has the latest drivers installed, especially for:
    • Graphics Card
    • Chipset
    • Network Adapter
    • BIOS/UEFI Firmware
  • Use the HP Support Assistant app or visit the HP Support website.

Uninstall Faulty Drivers:

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Look for any drivers with a yellow triangle.
  • Right-click > Uninstall Device, and reinstall them.

Monitor System Temperatures

  1. Install Monitoring Software:
    • Use apps like HWMonitor, Core Temp, or MSI Afterburner to check CPU and GPU temperatures.
    • Normal idle temperatures: 35-50°C; under load: 70-85°C. Anything above 90°C is critical.

Address Software Issues

Scan for Malware:

  • Run a full system scan using Windows Defender or a trusted antivirus tool.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and install all pending updates.

Perform System Maintenance:

  • Clean temporary files using Disk Cleanup.

Reset or Reinstall Windows

Perform a Reset:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Reset this PC.
  • Choose "Keep my files" to preserve data but reset the system.

Reinstall Windows (if reset fails):

  • Create a bootable USB drive using the Windows Media Creation Tool.
  • Boot from the USB and reinstall Windows.

Test Hardware

  1. Run HP Diagnostics:
    • Restart the laptop and press Esc repeatedly to enter the Startup Menu.
    • Choose F2 for System Diagnostics.
    • Run a full hardware test, focusing on CPU, memory, and thermal components.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
